(NEXSTAR) — Throughout the U.S., the median household income is around $75,000, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 5-year survey. Your income can, of course, vary due to several factors, like where you live, your gender, and the field you're in. Your highest level of educational attainment can also be impactful. Among American workers who have only a high school diploma or equivalent, the median income is less than $37,000, according to data the Census released Thursday, which was based on their widespread community survey. Those who have a bachelor's degree, however, report a median income of just under $65,000. AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- Kate Cox never thought she would seek an abortion in her journey to raise a big, loving family. As a 31-year-old mother of two young children in Dallas, she was thrilled to learn she and her husband had a third on the way in August. That joy, however, was cut short by a diagnosis.“It is not a matter of if I will have to say goodbye, but when. I do not want to continue the pain and suffering that has plagued this pregnancy," Cox said in a petition to a Travis County district court. "I do not want my baby to arrive in this world only to watch her suffer a heart attack or suffocation. I desperately want the chance to try for another baby and want to access the medical care now that gives me the best chance at another baby.”She learned her baby has full trisomy 18 -- a fatal chromosomal condition causing deformities and growth delays in fetal development. Babies with trisomy 18 are often stillborn or survive for only minutes or days, and their mothers are often at ri...Two Central Texas cities named among 'coziest winter towns' in the country

At its Dec. 13 meeting, the St. Paul City Council will hear a proposed change to how it can dispose of its unneeded property. It is intended to change existing rules that were established to ensure an open and honest process.Five years ago, I received an email from the City Planning Department (PED) using its early notification system. It said that they were planning to sell a city-owned 6,200-square-foot downtown plaza, on Robert Street, near Fifth Street. in the center of downtown, to an adjoining owner, Madison Equities. The amount agreed on was only $2,500, or about 40 cents per foot. This was a great deal for Madison Equities. It looked like a special favor to me. The true value was about $50 per foot. The City of St. Paul had its own appraisal for $30,000, while Ramsey County had it valued at $326,000. St. Paul’s Planning and Economic Development Dept. explained that the city’s valuation was so low because the plaza was an unbuildable location.Being buildable isn’t t...Six survivors of Pearl Harbor attack are returning to honor those who perished 82 years ago

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — Ira “Ike” Schab had just showered, put on a clean sailor’s uniform and closed his locker aboard the USS Dobbin when he heard a call for a fire rescue party. He went topside to see the USS Utah capsizing and Japanese planes in the air. He scurried back below deck to grab boxes of ammunition and joined a daisy chain of sailors feeding shells to an anti-aircraft gun up above. He remembers being only 140 pounds as a 21-year-old, but somehow finding the strength to lift boxes weighing almost twice that.“We were pretty startled. Startled and scared to death,” Schab, now 103, said at his home in Beaverton, Oregon, where he lives with his daughter. “We didn’t know what to expect and we knew that if anything happened to us, that would be it.”Eighty-two years later, Schab plans to return to Pearl Harbor Thursday on the anniversary of the attack to remember the more than 2,300 servicemen killed. Gaku Homma requires one thing from customers when they walk through Domo Japanese Country Restaurant’s recently reopened doors: patience. At 73 years old, the chef is still constantly on his feet, cooking, cleaning dishes and greeting guests. “I am happy to be back here, but I am busy,” he said.Homma reopened Domo, at 1365 Osage St., last month after a year hiatus, but with a smaller menu, limited hours and only four people on staff, two up front and two in the kitchen; that’s compared to the nearly 30 he had before the closure.“My hands can only hold so much,” Homma said.Domo closed temporarily in 2021 after a 40-second TikTok video of the restaurant’s beautiful outdoor gardens went viral and led to hundreds of people forming lines around the restaurant, overwhelming Homma and his staff. In September 2022, Homma appeared to have permanently closed up shop, saying he was ready to retire after running the restaurant since 1996.“I wanted to slow down, and I needed a break a...Latest news
